It’s important for young boys and girls to understand that success in athletics is not limited to the field of play. Much like winning on the field; excellence in the sports business requires training, coaching and practice. It is our mission to provide the foundation for sustained greatness to minority youth looking to compete in the “Off The Field” arena of athletics!
Often, Student Athletes don't understand the vast potential that exists for them to be successful in Sports non dependent on their ability to perform on the field of competition. Our mission is to provide equitable and accessible opportunities for inner city and underprivileged youth to pursue futures in the sports industry via education, training and exposure. It is our job to make these boys and girls successful long after the ball stops bouncing!
For years I watched Ryan Bivings battle with cancer. As a football player, it was the one opponent that he faced which couldn't be beated with hard work and dedication. I saw the difficulties Ryan faced as he attempted to juggle college coursework with chemotherapy, rehabilitation and life in general. Each year we will award a scholarship to a deserving young man or woman who is fighting against cancer while still attempting to pursue a career in sports or the sports industry. I promised Ryan a few years ago that we would share his story with the world and even though he is no longer physically with us, I will ensure that his life and story lives on!
In 1998, I met Mr. James Fulbright. He believed in me from Day One and provided unwavering support for me and my dreams. He traveled the country with me to camps/showcases and made numerous sacrifices to ensure that I reached my goal of playing Collegiate Athletics. When I went on to compete at the Division 1 level, I often spoke with him about how I could pay him back. His response always centered around helping the next "Justin." He instilled in me the concept of giving back. My best way of honoring his memory and thanking him for all that he did for my life is to provide support to Student Athletes and Athletic Programs through programming, mentorship, camps/showcases, financial assistance, etc. The James A. Fulbright Memorial Athletic Support Fund will ensure that finances are not one of the hurdles that Student Athletes face in the pursuit of their dreams!
